Mission: Run 1000 Miles in 2011

Okay..I really am not that much into New Year's resolutions despite what it may seem like.  I just happened to make a conscious decision to change to reusable shopping bags thanks to a friend telling me about Envirosax just prior to Christmas.  As a result, I checked out their website and they were nice enough to sponsor a review and giveaway on my blog.  It's something I've been meaning to do for a while and it's only a matter of getting into the habit as many of you mommies have let me know!   Unlike other New Year's resolutions, I am not going to beat myself over forgetting to do it once in a while.  Life happens and no one is perfect.  Often, the most successful people are the ones that accept their mistakes, learn from them and adjust appropriately.

While I am not so much into resolutions, I am all about setting goals.  I have lots of goals for the year.  Most notably, I hope to finish at least two more Master's classes.  I am starting another next Tuesday so that's a start.  Another goal I have is to keep up with my running.  I've kind of taken a break which isn't a bad thing but I need to get back on the treadmill.  I find it much easier to stay focused when I have a fitness goal in mind that isn't related to the scale.  Therefore, my immediate goal will be to run a half marathon in April.  It's a race that I've done a couple time before and it's a great way to start off the year.  I am going to mostly train on the treadmill and do my longer runs outside on Sundays (weather permitting).

In order to keep the momentum going, I thought it'd be fun to set a bigger goal to works towards.  It could be an interesting challenge since there are many unknowns for me this year with returning to work in May and having two kids in daycare for the first time.  I am going to work towards running 1000 miles in 2011.  I usually keep track of my running on runningroom.com.  You can log in and keep track of your mileage (among other things) free of charge.  I am also going to create a ticker to help keep track of my progress.  I will add it to my blog so if you're ever feel bored, you can see if I've been running lately and feel free to kick my butt if I'm not.  (I'm sure you've got more important things to do though!)

Step 1 is to register for the half marathon.  I am too cheap to sign up for something and not participate.  I am also too competitive to NOT train.  My hubby also gave me a Forerunner AND Nike + so there are no excuses not to run.  I've got extra running toys that need to be played with!

Step 2 is to get back on the treadmill even if it's just 3 miles to start with.  I've been sick for a couple weeks but feel better today so 3 miles at a slower pace should be attainable.

  1. Competitive as always ... I say I'm going to run 1000 km, and you decide to one-up me with miles ...
