The Christmas Stocking Mystery has been solved!

I'm sure that inquiring minds want to know which stocking Aleena got for Christmas.  In November, I wrote a post about Christmas stocking stuffer ideas and poor Aleena realized that she didn't have her very own stocking yet!  Okay, I admit she didn't look very sad in this picture but there was a deep ache in her heart that she was hiding from the outside world.  In case you are interested in stocking stuffers in January (who isn't?!), please check out the post at Favourite Baby Things - Christmas Stocking Edition.

Despite the widespread belief that her stocking might feature Rudolph the Reindeer, Aleena was given Candy Canes...appropriate for such a sweet little girl.

Note the difference in size between my stocking from when I was a child to my own children's.  Clearly, the expectations have gone up!  Santa must have gotten a bigger sleigh in the past 30 years.  The odds are good that Santa will be asked to bring at least one new pair of pajamas each year to help stuff these massive stockings.

I want to give a special thank you to my Grandma for making Aleena's stocking.  She also made Jeremy's and Connor's.  My Mom made my stocking way back when.  Now that I've cracked this case, it's time to put them away until next Christmas!

  1. I'm curious as to whether you could point me in the direction of where to find the pattern for those knitted stockings. I had a similar one growing up, and my mom would like to knit one for my new husband.

  2. Hi Heather!

I am not even sure where to find them now. My Mom and Grandma have the patterns in a booklet that I am sure they bought about 40 years ago. If you know which one you like, I could likely get a copy for you scanned. There's also a reindeer, dog, cat, etc.

    1. can you please tell me the name of the booklet? My family received the same stockings as a gift and I know they were homemade. I learned to knit just so I can make them but cannot find the pattern!

  3. Hi Trudy
I just came across this blog on my hunt for those stocking patterns again, I do this year after year, lol. This is the first time I've seen them though. I have the snowman one lol. Anyways, my Nan use to make these for all of us, my parents, siblings, cousins all have one, and I've been trying to find the patterns so I could make them for my husband, kids and nieces. when my Nan passed away her knitting stuff seemed to have vanished and I've been trying to find this booklet of patterns ever since. Could you find out the name of the pattern book and who published it for me? I would be so unbelievably grateful, I'm so desperate to find a copy of it somewhere.

    Thanks
    Jennifer

  5. http://www.marymaxim.com/patterns-books/books/home-decor/mary-maxim-christmas-stockings-pattern-books.html

You can buy the books there with all 52 designs. Love them!

In regards to the stockings getting bigger over time, ours have done that too. My mom says (the one who knit them all) that it is because of different weights of yarn used and even the size of the knitting needles. Darn cute though!

  6. I have been scouring the Internet for this candy cane stocking pattern! My friend asked me to try to knit this stocking for her little girl because everyone in her family has these stockings except for her. Sadly, the lady who knit the rest of them passed away before the baby was born. I checked the link that Ahnah posted above and didn't see that pattern. Could you please point me in the right direction? I'm willing to pay for it, but I can't find it! Thank you so much!
